As part of a writing assignment inspired by a text by Jean de Léry on pineapples, 7th grade students wrote a text about a mystery fruit. Dina's was particularly successful, so congratulations to her !

The mysterious fruit


When I hold it between my fingers, it is small like a marble and smooth like glass. Its surface is cool, as if it had just come out of the refrigerator. Its color is deep, as red as a sunset, but sometimes almost black like ink. When light shines on it, it looks like a red pearl.

When I bring it close to my nose, a sweet smell reaches me, like a light, sugary perfume. It's not a strong smell, but rather a slight whiff.

I put it in my mouth. It's firm, and when I bite into it, I hear a sharp sound, like a little click.

Immediately, a little juice bursts out, sweet, like liquid candy, with a slightly tart taste. Its flesh is tender and soft, and the juice slides over my tongue, as fresh as a sip of water in the morning, and the taste lingers in my mouth. In the center, I feel a hard pit, like a hidden stone, reminding me that this fruit has a solid core.

When I finish eating it, my fingers still smell of sugar, almost like a touch of syrup. And on my lips remains a small red stain, like a pretty drawing made by accident.
