As part of a joint Plastic Arts and Latin course, 5th graders have been working on the history of ceramics, with a particular focus on Armenian ceramics from Jerusalem.
On Wednesday 28/05/2025, they visited the Balian workshop, the Mecca of this artistic tradition. Nanor and Setrak, representatives of the fourth generation of this renowned family of craftsmen and alumni of the Lycée Français de Jérusalem, gave us a warm welcome.
Guided by Setrak, our visit began in the museum, which traces the exceptional contribution of Armenian ceramics to the city's history and visual identity. Then, in the workshop, Setrak took us through the various stages of production and decoration, punctuating his talk with personal anecdotes and family memories.
Finally, in the exhibition room, the students had the opportunity to try their hand at painting on ceramic tiles, a moment of exchange and creation that they enthusiastically embraced.
An inspiring and enriching visit, at the crossroads of history, art and memory.
